training technology issues. It is a great way to get up to speed on the
most current developments in the field. Even if you cannot pay for it in
this year’s budget, you can plan to register after the 1st.
New members include Howell Wright, Paula
Reed, Kim Marvel and Tom Van Etta. Welcome! We look forward to getting
to know you.
Renewing members
include Sue Fody, Dave Vance, Susan Meyer, Roann Burge and Doreen Kemp.
Thank you for renewing! We appreciate your continuing support.
Thanks to everyone who
filled out our Program Survey over the last two months. We had our
annual planning meeting on Dec 7th and used your input to
plan our programs for 2010. You also said you would like more networking
opportunities so the February meeting will be the first of three
programs next year to offer more networking. Read more about the Survey
results and our 2010 Programs in the President’s Corner below.
The Annual Report to
Members will appear in the January newsletter and look for 2010 Goals in
the February newsletter.
The ASTD-NRC Board
would like to thank everyone for their participation in 2009 and wish
everyone the best for the Holidays and the New Year! |

Program Survey Results and the Plan for 2010 Programs

Each year we seek your input to guide our program planning for the
coming year. Our goal is to provide interesting professional programs
that meet your needs, and there is no better way to discover your needs
than by asking.
Twenty three of you completed our program survey administered at the
November and December meetings and online. We used this input as well as
the level 1 evaluations completed for each program and past attendance
to plan our programs for 2010.
Following is a brief summary of the survey results:
• Most respondents have been members less than 3 years although 5
non members also contributed
• Most have worked in the field 1-5 years although there was a good
distribution across all levels of experience
• In terms of areas of expertise, the highest categories were
Deliver Training, Design Learning, Coaching, Improve Human Performance
and Facilitate Organizational Change
• Respondents were almost evenly split between self employed and
public or educational sector. Only one in non educational private sector
• Most had attended several meetings this year
• There was a wide response to presentations they would like to
see. The major choices in order of preference were Presentation Skills,
Leadership Development, Instructional Design, Change Management,
Coaching, Facilitation, Stress Management and Team Building
• Most became members for the networking opportunities. Building a
resume was a distant second.
• 75% prefer lunch meetings and 25% breakfast meetings. NONE
preferred dinner
Based on this feedback, the board decided on the following
program strategy:
1. Provide more networking opportunities since this is the primary
reason people become members. Two meetings will be dedicated to
networking and we will repeat the hugely successful Networking
Reception at Biaggis.
2. Schedule most meetings for lunch. We will try one breakfast
program and see how well attended it is. NO dinner meetings will be
scheduled.
3. Focus on the highest demand program preferences: Presentation
Skills, Leadership Development and Instructional Design
4. Continue to provide a variety of programming which will appeal
to a broader audience as well as training professionals
Your feedback and the resulting programming strategy are
reflected in our tentative 2010 calendar below:
• Jan 19: Jep Enck on strategies to succeed in 2010 (confirmed)
• Feb 16: Breakfast structured networking meeting. No speaker.
• Mar 2nd week: Leadership Development.
• Apr 21: Don Kirkpatrick for morning and afternoon workshop on The
50th Anniversary of the Four Levels (he invented them in 1949)
cosponsored with the Denver chapter of ASTD at Embassy suites in
Loveland.
• May 2nd week: Presentation Skills
• June 1st week: Networking Reception like last year at Biaggis.
Possibly cosponsored with NCCA and CCDA
• July: No program
• Aug 3rd or 4th week: Instructional Design.
• Sep 2nd or 3rd week: Panel: economic outlook plus employment
outlook from
local/economic development organizations
• Oct 2nd or 3rd week: What is Higher Ed Doing in the Training
Space? Include UNC, CSU, AIMS, Regis, FRCC
• Nov 2nd or 3rd week: Member presentation. Topic undetermined
• Dec 1st week: Lunch structured networking meeting. No speaker
Please let me or Stephanie Crecca (VP for Programs) know if you have
speaker suggestions for the topics above or alternate topic
recommendations. Our goal is to finalize programs for the first half
in January so you can calendar them.
