Welcome to the August Newsletter!
After a summer break, our monthly programs are resuming. We held our second program in Cheyenne on the 12th and our next program in Fort Collins will be on the 25th. Note that our new meeting location for Fort Collins is the Harmony Grill which offers a larger meeting room than the Egg & I.

Check out the program calendar below for titles and dates through December, including the half-day workshop with Michelle Cummings on The Trust Factor. And for those of you who cannot make lunch meetings, be sure to note the September 15th after-dinner program starting at 7 pm with Sam Lloyd from Boulder (cosponsored with NCCA).

Speaking of programs, Cindy Wilson, our VP for Programs, is resigning from the board. She has done an absolutely outstanding job in lining up great programs and in meeting our goal of publishing dates three to four months in advance. Cindy, thank you so much!!

So, now, we need a volunteer to be VP for Programs. The position involves soliciting, reviewing and recommending speakers for our monthly programs. Cindy already has the programs lined up through December so it is great time for a transition. Please let Dave Vance know if you are interested.

Last, we are featuring an article this month on the benefits of national ASTD membership. About half of our chapter members are also national members. There are a LOT of benefits to national membership. If you have not looked lately, check out the article to see what is new. For many it will easily be worth the $199 annual fee. ($169 if you join/renew local membership at the same time).

National ASTD Membership: A Career Investment that Pays Off

Membership in a professional association is a long term investment that can pay off handsomely. According to a 2008 research report from the William E. Smith Institute for Association Research, people who belong to associations earn more, are happier in their jobs, have satisfying careers, and feel connected to leaders within their industry.

Of course, simply joining can’t make all of that happen, but by using the benefits, staying current with industry news, content, and trends, taking advantage of professional development opportunities, can and will put your career on an upward path.

ASTD offers benefits and resources which help accelerate professional growth in the workplace learning and performance industry. These tools and publications showcase the latest trends, techniques, and best practices used by industry leaders worldwide. One of ASTD’s newest member benefits, the ASTD Online Library, allows members access to full text articles from nearly 3,000 of the most respected periodicals and journals. Plus, the library provides 290 full articles from more than 75 newspapers and regional business publications. Access to these resources allows ASTD members to do their own research and advise their colleagues with productive, proven learning solutions.

ASTD is committed to delivering useful and relevant data about learning investments, practices, and trends in workplace learning and performance. Members use ASTD’s industry data and research to gain support for their programs and improve the quality of their own research conclusions. With new research published each year, ASTD is the world leader in content for this profession. The annual State of the Industry Report details training expenditures and commitment across an array of companies and industries. Enhanced data collection provides a highly insightful approach to reporting the value of learning. For learning executives and business leaders, obtaining accurate and actionable information about learning remains a critical aspect of sound decision making.
Given current economic challenges, it is important for everyone to enhance their professional development. National ASTD membership gives you access to a wide variety of educational resources, tools, and research and lets you take advantage of unlimited networking opportunities through conferences, meetings, and an exclusive virtual community. Members gain satisfaction from sharing their knowledge and experience with others and developing their skills to advance in the profession.
