Who We Are

The American Society for Training & Development (ASTD) is the world's largest association dedicated to workplace learning and performance professionals.  ASTD's 70,000 members and associates come from more than 100 countries and thousands of organizations – multi-national corporations, medium-sized and small businesses, government, academia, consulting firms, and product and service suppliers.

Our Mission

Through experiential learning and performance, we create a world that works better.

What We Do

ASTD provides resources for learning and performance professionals – through research, analysis, benchmarking, online information, books, and other publications.
ASTD brings people together – through 140 local chapters, in 19 global networks, and in conferences, workshops, and on-line.
ASTD offers professional development opportunities – through competency studies, certificate programs and a career center for learning and performance practitioners.
ASTD recognizes excellence and sets the standard for best practices – through an awards program that honors organizations and individuals.

Our History

ASTD celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2004. In recent years, ASTD has widened the industry's focus to connect learning and performance to
measurable results, recognizing that the profession looks far beyond training in its quest to “create a world that works better.”

 Our Leadership

A 14-member Board of Directors sets the Society’s strategic direction and provides leadership to the profession and ASTD’s members worldwide.
A staff of 100 serves the membership.
