Date: Monday, August 21, 2006
Time: 6:00pm to 8:00pm
Place: Harmony Public Library Community Room, Southeast corner of Shields Street and Harmony Road (on the Front Range Community College campus), Fort Collins
Presenter: Dr. Howard Lewis, Ph.D., CPT
Topic: Breaking Through the Passive eLearning Barrier

About the Presentation:
Is your eLearning passive or active? The fact is, organizations are still producing far too many passive "page turners" with nice graphics and occasional multiple-choice questions serving as the only form of interaction. We are all well aware of the need to make eLearning interactive and engaging. The challenge is how to do that in a meaningful way that is aligned with your objectives, enhances learning, increases retention and, ultimately, makes an impact on business results.

Breaking through the passive eLearning barrier requires embedding instructionally-sound interactions across a core learning model. Unfortunately, designing interactions within certain elements of that model can be less intuitive and, consequently, more difficult than others.

This presentation will diagnose a variety of interactive eLearning samples developed for Fortune 500 companies with an emphasis on tips and techniques for developers and managers.

About the Presenter:
Dr. Lewis has been involved in education, instructional design and performance technology for over 26 years; including 4 years in the health care industry, 6 years with Xerox Corporation and 2 years with Apple Computer. His national and international experience has involved areas such as leadership, management, sales and marketing, engineering, medical management, customer service and electronic performance support.

He is currently President, Chief Learning Officer for Integrated Performance Solutions, Inc. (IPS). IPS specializes in instructional design, eLearning development and performance improvement solutions. In addition, he has served as an adjunct professor for Pepperdine University and the University of Hawaii teaching subjects such as learning and technology, education program development and evaluation, knowledge management and adult learning theory.

Howard earned his doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction, instructional technology and international training from the University of Southern California. He has published a number of articles and frequently presents for professional organizations such as the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) and the International Society of Performance Improvement (ISPI).
